HS2 delay represents a blow for a major economic opportunity for the region and the country

From Sir Roger Marsh OBE DL, Chair of the NP11:

The delay in progress of HS2 north of Birmingham represents a blow for a major economic opportunity for the region and the country. While inflation will have influenced the costs, the truth of the matter remains that this is a necessary investment for the whole of the UK and the longer it takes to come to completion the longer it will be for us to see those benefits.

The sections between Birmingham and Crewe, and Crewe and Manchester are pivotal to the success of this project and after seeing the Leeds leg watered down in 2021, we are concerned that the ambitions and aspirations for HS2 are being diluted.
