Business Support

To achieve a confident North with the skills it needs to thrive, we must work across sectors to find innovative ways to train people of all ages, and build a culture of good work and in-work progression in our businesses. To achieve this, we must consider changes to the delivery of education and skills services in the North.

This work is led by our LEPs and the NP11 will complement and amplify the fantastic work that is already taking place. Our ambition is to maintain a business-ready North, attracting and retaining high-value companies, and delivering good quality employment and a highly educated North, where schools nurture children’s talents and expand their horizons, and in-work training is available and accessible to all. Work is already taking shape, with several of our cities and regions developing Good Employment Charters or equivalent initiatives.

Working on behalf of both LEPs and Government, the NP11 is collectively supporting economic development across the urban and rural geography of the Northern Powerhouse, translating local and national policy into business support services and delivering practical assistance uniquely shaped to meet local needs, enabling entrepreneurs and businesses, including scale-ups, to become more productive, create new employment and achieve growth.

SignedUp Skills

The NP11 has partnered with software specialist PDMS, to launch an initiative called SignedUp Skills to help those affected by COVID-19.

The free-to-use platform will make it easier for those across the North, who have been adversely affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, to find new employment and training opportunities in their local area. The website is a comprehensive resource for accessing real-time vacancies, training courses and apprenticeships across the region, as well as finding opportunities from throughout the UK.

People from across the North can sign up free of charge and begin accessing a wealth of employment and training opportunities immediately. This resource will enable those who have been economically affected by COVID-19 to plan their next career steps in confidence. The service also offers career guidance, information and advice.
