Business groups and local authorities across the North have increased efforts to lobby the new Government and international investors to get behind the region’s energy and clean growth potential.
The NP11, a collaboration of the eleven Northern LEPs, which cover 76 local authorities, have unveiled plans to convene a major conference this autumn. The organisers say it will “showcase the innovation, leadership and opportunities across the North of England in energy, decarbonisation, transition and clean growth”. The conference, which is being held in Hull, is being organised in conjunction with the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy’ Green GB & NI Week, with cabinet ministers expected to speak at the event.
A northern-wide NP11 Energy & Clean Growth Strategy will also be unveiled at the conference which will “set out opportunities for the North to collaborate and work together going forward”.
The ambition is to attract Government and international business investment in the area and demonstrate that the North of England must be at the heart of the UK’s strategy to achieving its Net Zero carbon emission targets.
Roger Marsh OBE, Chair of NP11 and Leeds City Region LEP said:
“We have a unique opportunity across the North to unlock the economic opportunities that de-carbonising our economy will bring and embrace the new technologies that will drive our future growth. This is a priority area for the NP11 and we’re looking forward to working in partnership across the North to achieve our shared goals.”
Rt Hon Jake Berry MP, Minister for the Northern Powerhouse said:
“It’s great to see business leaders from across the Northern Powerhouse coming together during Green GB & NI Week to discuss how best to seize all the opportunities of clean growth.”
Lord Haskins, Chair of the Humber LEP, who are hosting the conference said:
“We are proud to be hosting this first-of-its-kind event, which is a fantastic opportunity to show the wider world what we have on offer across the North of England.
“I am delighted that eleven Northern LEPs are coming together to organise this event. This demonstrates that, through collaboration, we can become a world leading region in energy and clean growth.”
